Won't re-start

Been road testing the Dart for 45 minutes. Car has started 3 or 4 times whilst cold and hot without problem. Suddenly the car has cut out, restarted briefly coasted to a halt and refused to start.
I have fuel pumping into the carb. I have a spark that shows in broad sunlight. All leads are connected. Plugs ( i pulled two) are dry so no signs of flooding. Never had this problem before with this car. Any ideas?

Adrian, thanks but what is that bit

I went back to basics and set the timing up again, cleaned the plugs which were sooted up. Ran OK but without tickover. I need to set the timing properly but it ceratinly seems to like a lot of advance. Moving the dizzy clockwise livens it up.

Fair play! My alternator wires are good. Its a timing issue that needs setting up properly.

Be careful with the timing Miles as when you add in a good amount of initial the total can get way to much, start at 34*total then check initial, if it's a stock mopar distributor then you won't be able to get the numbers as you're going to need about 18ish initial and a total at around 34.

make sure the vac can is disconnected and the carb port plugged

I had a similar problem to yours, the car would run ok and then just cut out for no reason, it turned out to be a cracked ballast resistor. Not noticeable from the front but broken down the back.

This is all sounding very familiar.Missed the cruise@ Cheltenham when mine lost fire for 10 mins. Then ran home the next day 100% at 70 MPH with the caravan for 80 odd miles.Brand new orange box, coil and ballast. It was just like someone had turned the key off.Suspecting a loose conection I have given it a wiggle test ,inc the bulk head conector but will not cut out now!!! :x

Will, i've disconnected the vacuum and plugged it. will start on the timing again today.
