Well the Bee has arrived but I cant for the life of me figure out how to open the hood/bonnet? Looks like someone tried to jimmy it at the back though

Is there a pull inside the car or a lever at the front of the car?

should be a pull inside bolted to the inner kick panel (next to the driver on a RHD but could be passenger on a LHD) but if it has snapped you usualy find the remnants of the cable inner stuffed through a hole into the driver side wheel well up behind the headlamps/indicators


reach up wrap the end round a thick bit of wood and pull

the hood will have a safety catch which you undo by getting you fingers under the half popped edge of the hood and un snecking like a garden gate


if completely stuffed

get under start removing the radiator

then reach up with a long screw driver and either undo the hood stud (the bit that pops through the latch has a slot in the end and is locked in place by a nut on its thrreaded section so you can adjust front of hood height when latched to mtach wings)

or lever the slider around the knobby end of it

and undo the safety latch in the normal way

to do this you will have to remove something from below but what it is depends on the car

aussie charger its the radiator and front brace (K frame to rad support)

US cars have wide space between radiator and actual grill so you might just get away with some of the under car shrouding.

taking off the grill is another option but i'd avoid that at all costs. will be a pig to put back correctly

70 Coronet has a sideways lever at the front and then the safety latch....

Nothing inside car on my 70 Superbee. Standing at the front of the car there is a lever at the top right corner (nearest centre of car) of the left grill (passenger side in LHD car) just under the chrome loop, push right and the hood should pop up, then grovel in the gap to find the secondary release. The hood then lifts on springs and is self supporting when raised.

Trouble is the first lever on mine worked part time at best until I adjusted it. If you get that problem then it is a case attacking from below with a long screwdriver or similar.

Hope your Bee in better shape than mine!

Thats nothing....when I bought my Polara I asked all the right questions, looked it over like I knew what I was looking for, bought it.....then had to ask where the fuel filler was....Doh!!!

Think it was Dave who told me once...'the only stupid questions are the ones you dont ask'

I know because I have become the master of dumb questions!

Thanks for the replies guys. Only managed to have a quick look before I left for a quick Holiday. Managed to get it open and get it fired up after some messing about.

As it needs a bit of bodywork could anyone point me in the right direction of what company produces the best sheet metal these days?

Good work Andy.....Duncan (Cannonball) has loads of panels...,maybe has what you need? Worth a PM?

Also Hans from Sixpackspeedshop has lots of contacts for panels or you could search Craigslist using searchtempest then ship good used panels via container??

If they are small panels, could you make them? Im having a go with my Fury
