Is 2k spraying viable in a 24ft x 14ft garage?.. With a twin filter rubber face mask, goggles and disposable paint suit.?...

I want to paint the engine bay
My thought was
1 2k epoxy primer
2 any filler bodywork
3 2k high build primer
4 2k epoxy sealer
5 base coat
6 2k clear coat

Any advise please as I've normally used 1k etch , base coat and 1k clear

no you need a air fed mask,,,,,

It depends on how big your life insurance policy is and who benefits........

you also need to think about what you garage is near.

you may have a mask but those outside may not

yeah do it all the time

Soak the floor in water to keep dust down

Agree with Dunc, Pete and Dave999, be careful it killed my dad. Isocyanates are toxic, he learned the hard way before they knew how dangerous they are.

Make sure you are sealed in or wait for rain as it travels..covered the next door neighbors conservatory with a mist of white paint once..he was not to happy

I wear a very good 3M mask



for 1k paint you have to use a 2k clear over the top so you might as well use the 2k anyway 2k etch primmer is unbeatable

yep don't do it ! need full face air fed , cover all skin , you don't just inhale the stuff , Its the vapours / spray absorbes through the skin & eyes etc first couple small jobs , you think your getting a way with in a well ventilated area with a rubber mask ,( its like radiation poisioning first few minor expousures your sort of get away with but it builds up in your system ) , s if you look at what 2 pack does when it goes hard , in a pot , that's whats happening or trying to happen in your lungs , isocynates stop the blood carrying oxyen round the body too & many many more problems ,I forget them all , but its well scary stuff .
I useto use all the all the proper equipment . never took any chances , was litterly done up like a space man with a full face air fed etc for over 15 years , would even wear a proper rubber 3m mask when rubbing down prepping 2k dry paint / primer dust is sort of just as bad , but in a different way , even filler dust ,
& it still messed me up big time , don't want to scare anyone , although the real trouble comes when your as I was ! doing it as a job day in day out painting 25 cars on average a week for 15 years , or prepping etc although every one reacts to it in different was , my body just became too over sensertised to any paints , thinners etc even filler when you open the tin , my body just had enough by the end , could smell an open tin of 2k from a mile away , then shortly after blinding headache , blocked sinuses & like a sack of cement on my chest , & that was a good day & that was even before going any where nnear the paint shop

course known painters to paint in & out of a booth with two pack for years & not always using a airfed , & never had or have had half trouble it caused me

It's all about degrees of risk. Some lucky smokers carry on puffing away their whole lives and last til a ripe old age, most don't though...
The more hazardous material you take in, the higher the risk of damage, and the more severe the damage may be!

I've been spraying my primer with a 3m mask, disposable suit, gloves & goggles.
I know it's not ideal but as I'm just doing one panel at a time, I've been in there no more than 5-10 minutes at a time.
I wouldn't want to paint a whole car without an air-fed mask!

priming small areas / panels at a time , with 2 pack high build primer & spray filler , you can sort of get away with it , if there is a lot of ventilation , good indication if you can still smell it through the mask , that's bad ! even better if your using a gravity fed hvlp gun with a 1.8 2.0 fluid tip set up , & just turn the pressure down a little ( will come out a bit peely but that's what you want thick the high build on a repaired area ! ! something that you can give a good hiding with block etc) ( can pick up really cheap guns for primer these days ) no need to spend hundreds for a dedicated sata or devilbliss! primer gun .
after your done priming ( small amounts ONLY with a conventional rubber twin cartridge mask), sit out in the fresh air or go for a cycle , run etc , no joke , to get some freah air & oxyegenated blood pumping round the body, that's the recommended procedure for a short term over expousure to isocinate , you do something like that , your lessing the risk , is the length of time your doing it for & how much your exposed to it , loads of stuff in automotive refinishing seems to have isocinate it in , even some seam sealers , & sikoflex windscreen glue ! think its trying to kill off the older blokes to make way for the youngsters ,
