Wiper Arm Removal

Gents...daft question but I dont want to damage my wipers....

Got to remove my passenger side wiper arm to move it properly on to the windscreen when in the parked position. What is the best way to remove it? I assume its on a spline but cant see how its held on. Dont want to force anything trying to find a nut etc before getting some advice. Manual just says to remove the arm! On other old cars Ive had, the cover over the nut is hinged and tips up to reveal a nut holding the arm on the spline. Is it the same on my Fury??

Cheers Steve :thumbright:[/u]

if you look where the arm slides onto the splined shaft, you should see a little tab that you pry gently away from the shaft and hold it while you slide the arm off. It usually won't come off easy though. May have to hold the tab with a small screwdriver and pry the arm with a bigger screwdriver, protect the paintwork in the area underneath the wiper arm before you start

Yes,small stainless tab underneath,as said will be tight on the spline,I always use silicon grease on the spline when replacing the arm.

i have a nylon chopping board cut to go round the shaft and lay across the plenum

cos sometimes you need a pursuder to assist

go at it too hard and the whole splined bit comes off the wiper pivot stem and then probably should be drilled and grub screwed back on.

really depends how manky and corroded it all is

i just used superglue and live with the knowldge that my wiper and the splined bit will end up in the fast lane of the M25 one of these days

don't ask.....
