Numbers matching

I think I have located the engine number on my 318 '73 Dart.
I looks to be on the front of the block(drivers, N/S ) below the head.

When the term "numbers matching " is spoken about , what part of the chassis number is included in the engine / gearbox number.

Just curious !

That is the block id pad you have found. The partial VIN to make it "matching numbers" is down on the passenger side of the block just above the oil sump.

Plenty of info here , thanks Dave, I'll have to get in the barn, and see what I can find out.

I put that block number down as the engine number ,on the application for a reg doc

I have copied all that information over onto this board now so it is easier for people to find here.

Hi Dave,
Checked the block ID pad today, and that does have the chassis numbers on it, but the auto gearbox ID pad appears to be blank/no stampings.
The gearbox does have some numbers on the drivers , N/S , by the selector,
but that doen't match the chassis number.
