AFR meter and oxygen sensor location

I'm fitting a AFR meter
Ponder on this please :-
Where would you locate the oxygen sensor,
1) 1 sensor in one bank/downpipe/header(only senses one bank)
2) 2 sensors and two gauges,1 for each bank.(senses both banks)independently.
3) 1 sensor fitted in X pipe, senses both banks.( mixed together) but away back down the exhaust.

I would say 1 sensor in one pipe as same carb feeds both banks so should be the same. Eg well maintained engine all plugs firing
I did read that the sensor should not be inline of fire
Eg not a nut welded on pipe should be in a resess pointing towards back of car
Also should not be at bottom of pipe due to water
But I have no experience and have never seen one in the flesh

If it is a heated sensor you can put it where you like except past the axle where it can mix with O2 drawn in from the air.
If it is relying on exhaust gas temp to heat it you want it as close to the header collector as possible.
If in a horizontal pipe then mount it at 10 or 2 o'clock.

stuck mine just after where all the tubes merge.
set it at above horizontal by 10-15 dgrees
stops water running in and ruining it

Thanks for all your inputs/advice.
Great thread Adrian, lots of info.
I'll post up how I get on.
But I don't think I'll get around to it this week !
