727 won't go into 3rd

I've been out on my 2nd test run.
1st test run I found the auto cooler pipe s leaking on the headers,SMOKING !
tighten them up all ok
2nd test run , and the 727 doesn't seem to change in to 3rd gear.
What speed should it change up to top gear, at light throttle ?
I have adjusted the kick down cable, so it has no slack at full throttle.
any advise please.
Dart 318 + 727

I'd have thought band adjustments would be next, but if I were you I'd PM Dunc Watts, he'll know

Thats OK
Yes, have checked that first , at hot in neutral, clean fluid, up to the mark.

Johnny, how fast have you driven the car? If you adjust the kickdown wrongly it will hold in second gear and maybe not change up until 40-50 mph.is it not changing up at any speed?

Miles, I live in the country, with windy lanes, so I haven't gone over 50 yet, but assumed It would change into 3rd below that on light throttle.
I think I have adjusted the kick down correctly, but welcome advise on how to do so.
The other thing that could be a problem, is when I imported the Dart,it had , had a Lokar shifter fitted very badly.
I have to fit it again, and set it up ,so It didn't start in gear.
There is the possibility that this is not set up quite right, and when selected D , may be 2nd is selected ?
I am going to have a look tonight.

Mmm, could be wrongly adjusted. Has this problem just started to occur ie did it used to have third before you worked on the kick-down?. Kick-down adjustment is easy to get wrong. Subtle adjustments can move the shift and the kickdown point as I've found from experience.

This is only the second time i've driven it since I imported it,so I don't know if it had 3rd gear to start with.
I have just come in from looking at it, the lokar shifter, does not seem to have enough throw, ie travel.
If I set it up with the shifter in park, and the box lever in park, I can start it in park and neutral, and select D and 2 but not 1
If I set up the shifter at 1, I can get 1, 2 , D , park, but it it wont start in neutral or park.or any gears, the inhibitor switch is on the box end and working.
I don't know if it would get 3rd gear, as I did this on the ramp, and did not drive it on the road this time.
may be have 2 faults, lokar shifter ,and kick down adjustment ?

Are you sure its 1st and 2nd you have and not 2nd and 3rd as I have a friends box that only goes in to 1st if you manually put it in? Otherwise, put it in Drive and you just have 2nd and Drive...

Call me and I'll explain how to set the kickdown correctly. If the kickdown isnt set correctly it will only change into third over 50mph and if set correctly it should go into third under 30mph.
How is your reverse gear working?

Thanks to all, especially Cannonball and Anton , for your help, and advise
I now have 3rd gear, it changes up at 25-30 mph ish.
And I now have manual 1st gear. That tunred out to be a badly fitted/adjusted Locar shuifter.
