axle ID

my mate has blown the diff in his satelite, needs a new diff but first need to identify it (8 3/4 i think), any axle gurus outthere and secondly anyone got a spare diff knocking about, not too worried about ratio just wants it back on the road for the summer any help much apreciated.

Yes it's an 8 3/4". It will have a number cast into that lower rib ending in 741,742 or 489, that's important if you are going to rebuild it as gears and bearings don't interchange. You can of course fit any complete diff to that axle. What's actually broken?

it looks like the pin holding the plannet gears has sheared, possibly a complete diff will be the way to go as it all looks a bit chewed up.

You might find an open 741 at sensible money but either of the others are not so easy to find or cheap especially if they have a sure grip.

he isnt worried about suregrip, just wants it back on the road. cheers for the help
