To Hellcat or not to Hellcat

Hi guys, I was a member around 8 or so years ago. I still own the CNH 320H 69 charger general lee that changed hands a couple of times after import. Unfortunately it is under a cover on the driveway as I don't get the time for it, and have never found a mechanic who is willing to get it running for a reasonable price and handle the headache of ordering the parts.

Anyway, my daily is a 2012 chally SRT8 (392 hemi). I love it (except not being able to park due to its size), but the sound is disappointing, even though I changed it to aftermarket magnaflow competition series full system. It sounds nothing like my 69 on glass packs :( It isn't the quickest car around either.

So, I'm thinking about getting this 707 bhp Hellcat when it is available. It's going to be 60k landed - a huge step up in cash from my 2012...

What are your guys views on it? Is it worth it or am I going mad? Is there anything better in the price range (yanks)? Will it hold value? Anyone else planning on getting one?

Thanks

Drew just posted this clip on another thread about it, be interesting to see what the real world top end is.

There is a thread on it here;

Looks to be quite a piece of kit! :thumbright:

Thanks for the link.... the supercharger whine sounds great. I'm still not a fan of the modern V8 sound though. My 69 sounds amazing even when idling, my 2012 sounds like a subaru impreza or something.

My concern is that it's not much different from my 2012 except the supercharger.... I mean, the interior feels a little perfunctory and it just doesn't feel like a 60k car.

But I can't think what else I could get, other than a vette or older viper..

Nice one... let me know if you do. I'm being told it should land october/november.

From my understanding I already have one effectively reserved from my dealer. I jumped the gun and agreed to it (no deposit paid but I know the guy). I can change my mind though. I would get it in sublime green, I think. Or maybe red.

The more I watch videos of it the more I like it. I just Bananarama! had that 60s mopar sound. I bet its silent when stopped in traffic like my 2012.

Do you really think this car is good value? I know a reliable 707 bhp would kick ass but still having second thoughts...

If I had or have the money it will be in my driveway......all ifs

I wouldn't hesitate,or one could wait to let them work the bugs out and or buy a pre owned unit in the future

Interesting to hear. Glad you guys are fans of the modern challengers...

thank you

All this talk is making me want to go get my 69 back on the road. It is sitting there miserably getting rustier by the day. It was a great driver, but I stupidly put a 492 (i think) stroker race block in it, big torque converter, manual valve body, huge cam, and while it was fast it was just crap to drive on the street.

It needs a lot of work to make it fun again.

Hi and welcome back. Why can't you sell or swap the 492 for a more drivable 440 or something, if you just want it to drive about in?

My 2012 r/t is rather sedate in the sound area, I CAN hear tyre noise over the exhaust, and when I lean on it I mostly hear manifold sound rather than the exhaust,

since my old one is pretty decent sounding ,all I have to do is give the ole 70 a drive and ,realize I dont need to do a dam thing to the new one cept drive it :thumbright: :thumbright: :thumbright: I love both of em ;)

really? My 69 is about twice as loud (literally) at idle and full throttle. The lumpy cam adds to that effect. When I fire it up I sometimes think the exhaust has fallen off the headers compared to my modern chally.

To me my 2012 chally with magnaflow competition series sounds very tame.. especially at idle.

Mind you, I bumped into a bloke with an R/T with a CORSA exhaust and in fairness it did sound hella lot better than mine...throaty...

Thanks, I had the 440 block sitting around for ages but told the garage who swapped it to just sell it, and I lost the torque converter too

I just don't have the time to work on cars and I don't know anyone who can sort it for me... I've been working 24/7 past few years

If I had a garage I could leave it with for a month and get it all sorted I would pay the money but I tried for a while (years ago) and never found anyone

If the 69 just needs tuning I can do that for you.
