don't think its the answer your looking for , the Ebody mob will know more on this i'm sure .

while anything can be made to fit , if you know body /paint / cutting/ welding etc & have patience . IMO your going to have a lot of messing about ( time ) cutting fabricating & measuring ect , your going to be miles ahead , ordering up a new repop 70 tail lamp panel , a good days work will see it done , the other way think your be a few days just measuring :? :read2:

Quite easy, you sell the 72 and buy a 70. ;) Simples.

Seriously I can understand why you want to do it as the 70s lights are better but a lot of work, are you building a 70 clone?

hi
you need the 70 panel or you could get away with a bit off tweaking a 71. the 72 0n is very different

This is a picture of my 72 which has already had a 70 rear panel fitted. Might give you some idea of the differences/work involved in converting yours.

if you're going to convert, get a set of 70 lights first and then adapt the panel to fit them but I think the results would be better using the 70 panel. Good luck with whatever route you take.

I've had all the rear lights off my '70 and the two 'outboard' clusters are one-piece and therefore have 8 studs to get through the rear panel whilst the two reflector 'bowls' fit in the outer pair of 'letterbox' cut-outs. The centre reversing light is half the size, single bowl, 4 studs.

I'd agree with everyone else - very tricky if you don't have a '70 panel.

By the way, the reason I took mine off was that there were no body gaskets fitted and I wondered why I was getting CO poisoning in the cabin . . . !

1970 rear lights are certainly the best-looking.

You need the 70 panel and all the lamps, bezels etc.
I considered it but stuck with the 73 back end on my Sam Posey tribute, i just park it so the back is towards the wall!

I have a second hand 70 steel back panel that will need work but is the correct bit.
