Yep, very impressive, I watched it a few times on drag week

Yes I guess it is, but it should be shouldn't it with upwards of 1800hp dependent on boost levels, obviously they have to be built well etc. etc., and its the cost!, but they are becoming 2 a penny, they should all run 7's and much better, to me, they are getting a bit boring now.
In a world of TT cars, big stroker motors everywhere that make 900hp+, 8 sec ET's don't mean much anymore, well to me anyway. What impresses me is a car thats really well sorted, runs mega quick 60fts for the ET even if its a 10.0 or slower, has a stock stroke or slightly above motor and been built with thought and knowledge in picking the right parts and set up to make it all work to its max. We can all go out and buy a huge motor and a trans etc. and run 8's in the right chassis, doesn't need a lot of thought to do that these days, just money.
We should have a stock stroke class in this country and then we will see who really knows what they are doing.

We had a good class with Super Modified, the rules were straight forward, http://www.supermodified.org/rules & designed to prevent things getting silly, it has now ceased as far to many "racers" thought it was too difficult & weren't prepared to work at fine tuning to get the maximum performance. When we raced in the class I was using Dave Koehler's Nitrous Master software http://www.koehlerinjection.com/nitrous ... nials.html he couldn't believe that we were running 7.50s with only 475 cubic inches & a 5lb bottle with only .600 lift cam.

Yes I was completely out of it when SM was all going on but do remember Fred and hearing about his Scorpio as I knew him well from the days at Dave Pollens Garage. Didn't know he was one of the quickest cars in the class looking at that link. Looks like there were 6 fast cars and 8 that couldn't quite cut it including my old mate Steve Green, but at 7.80 thats haulin for what was in it.
I gotta say its a real shame nothing like it exists today apart from the PRO classes, as thats proper Drag Racing the way it should be, it needs to come back for sure or something very similar. All we seem to have today is bracket racng.
Bracket racing is nothing but getting your car to repeat, yes, there is some skill in that, but your racing yourself and your dial, there's no incentive to go faster except for your own personal reasons within that bracket and for that time slip. Its a bit boring to me tbh, and I would imagine to the spectators who want to see more heads up racing, SM was a prime example of it with clearly defined rules so at last people can build a car to those rules for once and go head to head all out in a fair manner with competitors pushing each other to go faster to win, .....anything goes doorslammer sportsman heads up classes that we've had and have may be exciting, but are a farce in reality.

Couple of years back they came through Indy. we had talked about meeting up at IRP to do a photo op with a stock version next to his on the roads in US. Never quite managed to get it together though.
