Someone on ForEBodiesOnly sent me this link, anybody here used a similar kit or heard of any major negatives from using it?
Installation instructions show some good detail, sump plug has to be relocated but thats Bananarama! all really.
Got a quote and landed here about 950 earth pounds.

It's a lot of money for Somthing that does not chance much.
You have the fancy brakes and suspention on your that's worth good money if you sold it.
Since you like showing up BMWs around the bends might be worth taking the big dip

Ade, I looked into these, but they suffer badly from bumpsteer as i understood it. Not surprising given how its done.
Dont mess about, get an Alterkation set up. Job jobbed.

Agreed, I think many of the other kits are seriously compromised in this area. I think the Ackerman angles are also suspect, all sorted with Mr Reilly's offering...but at a cost........shame they don't take Mopar brakes so they will go in the bin as well...........more cost............

And you can still have power steering!
I was really tempted, but it would just be wrong on my car

I do Rember that there where issues with these system that the upper arm mount was not designed for this application so you had to have bars welded on inside wing. Or am I getting confused

The Alterkation is more or less a bolt-in, I think you can seam weld a tiny bit, but then I could be confusing myself with the C1 Upgrade kit.....the Alterkation takes all the structural load, unlike some lesser kits that place excessive loads on the shock towers / UCA location points on a Mopar......

think the best bet would be a new modern delphi steering box modified with mopar specific sector and a new mounting flange welded on
welded braced K frame mount
firm feel lower sector bearing
bearing set up instead of bush on the idler

however looking at the unisteer instructions the track rods out of the rack appear to be pretty level. usually the rack needs to be so low to avoid the sump that they go up towards the steering knuckle inducing more bump steer than necessary.
so provided that the rack can be placed where the drag link was. not forward and not back so the track rod ends are biased forward or back
they may have sorted bump steer and Akerman angle problems out.

Are the AlterKations really worth it though chaps? Or will a rebuild and some sensible upgrades do similar?
I was thinking by the time you've completely renovated a stock set up and changed to a tubular k member and made all the steering pump upgrades etc you might because fair way towards the cost of an AlterKation anyway....

Alterkation units are way more than a standard re-freshed front end
The only REAL benefit of an Alterkation is that you lose the Torsion bars which are a killer if you have a very hot tuned motor with 2"+ Headers.....
Mopar brakes do not fit so if you have invested in decent brakes they go in the skip as well so more cost....
