Started the Chally after a few weeks of lay up, got a slight ticking when putting in gear, but not in P.
Checked flex plate bolts, one slightly loose but not touching anything.
Now start it and ticking is much louder, goes with engine speed. I havent driven it other than into the garage.
Sounds possibly like something on the top end. Time for rocker covers off i think

It'll just be an exhaust manifold gasket blowing a bit.

Flex plate bolts need to be secure and WELL clear of hitting anything as (particularly under braking) the plate flexes forward and the bolt heads can hit the block.

The correct flex plate bolts have a very shallow head for clearance. Never use normal bolts.

Could also be a lazy lifter if its been laid up a while. My truck always had a bit of a top end rattle, just one lifter that was slow to pump up.
I started my 34 up just yesterday in very cold temperatures and the lifters were a little noisy before calming down.

My hope was gasket, as I have given that advice myself before, but this sounds a bit noisier. I did wonder about a lazy lifter, and the noise goes off occasionally but not for long. I let it warm up for 10 minutes and it got no better.
It does sound rather metallic. Jack has videoed it so can try to post the noise later. You can hear it with the hood shut.

A blown manifold/header gasket does sound metallic. Like a "clack clack clack".

Matt, drive it down the road. If its an exhaust gasket it will certainly let you know when under load.

It can be louder under load. Putting it in gear creates a load.

It sounds awful, but I had the covers off and all looks good.
Now pulled the manifold on the pass side and I may have the wrong manifolds as the port shape is different, meaning there is very little gasket or sealing area at the bottom.

Does this manifold look familiar, is it a 360 maybe? The other side has the outlet at the back not the middle.

I think it may be time for some proper gaskets and fit the headers at the same time.

Ive found the casting numbers on these manifolds,

2- 670337-3

and 404_488 with a date of 1976.
(the dash is an unreadable number)
Of course all the casting number lists i can find stop at 1973

This is the headers I have, slightly different port shape.

Ditto. Same on mine.
I too thought it was something more terminal. They are devils to seal.
