Innovate O2 sensor faulty :-(

The gauge started jumping to max (22) when i drove to Portsmouth. Now it's permanently reading 22.
I tried recalibrating it today, now it shows error code E8. Sensor goosed
I guess I'm looking at a new sensor, £50!
Any ideas why it's died? It's correctly fitted at 10o'clock, etc. I just don't want to kill another one!

This is why i junked my innovate gear and bought some proper stuff. Bloody hopeless!

I've had an Innovate meter in the car for years and had no problems with it. It's the one with a separate control box. A friend of mine fitted one of the later ones that is self contained in the meter itself and he's having nothing but trouble with it.

It appears to be the sensor that's packed in, not the gauge. I guess I'll have to fork out £50 to find out !

Probably not that relevant in this case, but most O2 sensors do not respond well to being in the exhaust system when they are not powered up. I've read this in a couple of places, last time was when I was installing omex EFI on my Alfa.

The instructions for my new AEM set up expressly pointed out that the car should not be started unles the whole guage set up is connected and ready to power up.

Yeah, that's in the instructions for mine. I may have made a mistake I guess but I don't think so. I'll probably never know

Basically I have a 1966 Giulia Sprint GT Veloce with twin spark engine.
I fitted Jenvey throttle bodies and Omex.
Sound great, looks period and I got 37 MPG on a 600 mile round trip to Somerset a few months ago.
It's quite neat that the plymouth is a 1966 too, they make the perfect contrast
