Some of you guys who were playing with my car at the weekend noticed the starter turns slowly.
Today I went for a drive and the motor won't not start. The starter is barely turning. I have 12.7v at the battrey.
All earths in place.
I had just swapped the carb over and the car fired up and idled fine.
Turned it off and then it just went down rapidly.
Time for the mini starter?
Could the ballast resistor be problematic and causing the problem?

Check all connections are good otherwise sounds like you've got a lazy starter might be time for a new one. If you do go for the high torq one

I think it is the starter. I wound back the timing a touch and she started up fine. Had the same problem coming back from the Nats least year. Stopped for lunch and starter dragged down, wound it back and off it went.
Ordering a new starter now, it must be overdue.

Yarp, always time for a mini starter on Mopes.

Last one I had anything to do with was the Cmdrs 383 Charger, made a massive improvement.

Although 12.7 does seem a little low....checked the charging rate?

Yes Mike, that voltage reading was taken after some cranking time.
When running its a good 13.5 or so at idle.

Definitely starter time but did you get to the bottom of the Mondo timing issues?????

Pete, not sure on the timing tbh. Ended up using seat of the pants approach, ie advance till it pinks or pulls starter down and go conservatively. It did neither all the way down to cornwall including some thrashes up the long hilly bits.
It occurred to me that the new heads are quench,high compression and that I might as well time it properly once the TTIs are fitted and the engine build is complete.
As I understand it that combo will need a little less timing than previously, so one step at a time.
