I have a shance to buy this 2 owner Fury from a friend in SA.
Its a 318 3 speed wagon 3, a/c
I've always fancied a wagon and it is something I'll keep there and use
Have a few questions:
1. How difficult is it to fit an auto box, colum shift
2. If I want to go big block later, it means K frame etc changed ?
Thanks

Love that matey!!! Not sure about the mods but I would imagine you will need a different steering column, the 727 box, kickdown linkages, different propshaft, gearbox mounting cross member and mount, rad with a trans cooler (or aftermarket one), speedo pod with gear indicator, different engine mounts etc. Ive never even contemplated this so its guesswork on my part. Plenty of project cars available stateside so I suggest your best bet would be a doner auto trans big block car and just use the bits you need

You can use the same "K" member but may have to use Schumacker mounts...not a biggie.
Similarly it is easy to fit the Trans but the hard part would be to find the column shift components, a floor shift with cable is a much easier to do option...........

Thanks for the input, I appreciate it.
Floor shift does sound easier Pete. Its not as it is a collectible car , can sure do with a bit of modification
I am looking at the car next week in SA, will let you al know..

Swapping in an auto will be pretty much a bolt in job, you may have to mod the prop though. It might be possible to get the existing column change mechanism to operate an auto, it would only have to move the quadrant backwards and forwards after all.

Well, I appreciate the ideas. I am off to SA tomorrow, will look at the car on Sunday
I ahve afew Mopar contacts there to give me an idea of parts available to do possible upgrades.
If it was an auto 318 I would leave it as is, do not fancy 3 speed, after driving my Roadrunner 4 speed in traffic

Yep, LA motor….

Roel, wide block = poly
LA = typical 318 found in later cars

"Polyspheric" is a 318ci "A" Engine.
They revised it (made it worse but Lighter) and made it the 318 "LA". (Light A)
The current hemi is loosely based on the head design of the Poly or "Semi-hemi" as it was known at the time............

Well, I bought the Fury. My friend even trailered the car 500 miles to my home in the Eastern Cape. I have had 3 days of driving it around, scaring the locals before returing to the UK. It is now safly stored untill i get out to SA again. The car is so original that I am just going to use it as is.
318 poly motor, a/c, absolutely no rust or leaks.
First time I used the brakesI nearly went through the windscreen, very sharp!!
Been reading about Poly 318's, all new to me. Would like to find a 4 barrel intake and then fit a small 4 barrel carb. Other option is to use the 2barrel from a 383 engine.
Also perhaps dual exhaust, it has a very wheezy single exhaust
I'llappreciate any suggestons to give it a bit bette performance
