Made Good Progress on the Cuda Today

Having been disappointed with the performance of the Cuda recently, particularly the pinking on heavy acceleration, I figured a plug and lead change might be a good starting point. Although the lead set was new, it was a generic set from Customville and the plugs were the usual Champions. I replaced them with NGK iridium plugs and a set of Mopar Restoration leads.

After fitting them I turned the key and the car started instantly! (Normally takes 3-4 goes with lots of foot pumping). Idled like a swiss watch and sounded great. Quick look with the shaker off the car revealed a steady drip of fuel from the rear carb. Luckily I had a rebuild kit so carb off and on the bench. Replaced all the gaskets and also the diaphragm and then straight back on the car. I was desperate to fiddle with the jetting but thought it best to leave well alone. Got everything back on and fired it up, again started within 1/2 second. Leak fixed so took her out for a spin. The car has been transformed! Goes like stink, no hesitation and pulls really well. Not sure if the pinking has been eliminated as it has 114 octane race fuel in it but the difference is amazing.

That's a great result from new leads and just plugs.
Leads break down slowly and I wonder how many of us replace them soon enough.

My money is on the Plugs being the fix.
I had 6 out of 8 break down and fail on my 6-pak - all Champions......go figure.......
