POR 15 & Primer

Hi guys and gals,
Anyone had to prime over POR 15 products? I've stripped most back to metal and have sprayed POR's Metal Ready on and washed off. Next stage is to coat with POR 15. After that they say to spray their 'tie coat' primer on or use primer to the POR 15 when tacky.
Problem is their 'tie coat' primer aint cheap and I want to buy enough to do the whole van - inside, out and underneath.

What other primer can I use over POR 15?

Cheers,
Steve

What I've heard from the States is that Por15 doesn't work so well unless you use their whole system. Sorry, but I've not used it myself so couldn't comment further than that!

From what Ive read on an Aussie forum its the dogs cahoona's. And its ment to work better in our moist climate. I will be using it when I come to paint my Charger but i will have to read up on it a bit more as Im in the same boat as you Steve. Im not that clued up on it.

I,ve used POR 15 and hopefully it's as good as it's made out be, only time will tell. But believe what it says on the tin, if you get some on your skin, (which you will), remove it straight away with solvent. If you leave it for half an hour or so it's there until it wears off. Once the tin is opened it's difficult to re-seal it and it will only last a few weeks before it goes off.

I have topcoated directly on to it and so far so good (but as Mick says time will tell!) Probably better to do it before it cures rock hard, maybe even while still tacky??

wear latex gloves and you won't need to worry about geting on your hands (yes mick is right it will stick!). He's also right that it can be difficult to seal. I put it in a jam jar and put a piece of plastic under the lid. I've had it last years that way...but if you don't seal it properly in it will go rock hard and you'll lose the lot (had that happen too!).

Some people swear by it and a few people swear at it. I've had good experience so far myself.

Nice one!... Already put one coat on and yep should've worn gloves :D
I took the msd sheet to my local paint supplier, he said two pack primer will go right over the top as por15 has similar properties. I'm going to apply another coat, then primer over whilst partially dry...Should do the trick!
Thanks,
Steve
