Sentiment is a strange thing, sometimes things are better left in the past, sometimes you ignore it and plough straight on....

I would be the first to acknowledge that this may not be GM's finest hour in the performance stakes and they are rather "Marmite" in the looks department, but my Kitchen Cupboards have the brown stuff in :D

Back in 2006 I bought this very Car and had two fantastic Summers out of it,we went all over including a trip to the Le Mans 24h. It came to me with 72k on the Clock a huge History File including loads of US Paperwork,it was exceptionally clean inside and out but largely standard apart from the Cowl Hood.305ci and open Diff :help:
Unfortunately by 2008 times were tough for me,the Car Sales Business needed Cash and so I advertised her and she went immediately to a nice Chap in Mansfield,I always regretted it because almost as I sold it my fortunes changed.
Fast forward to this year, after I sold both RAMs I owned I promised myself another project, maybe do a few RWYBs. My thoughts turned to the Monte and I began wondering what had become of her.A check online revealed SORNED and Untaxed since 2011,I went up in the Loft and dug out all the Sales Invoices to find the Address/Phone Number. I found the Address but I had not taken a number and they were ex directory :? As luck would have it I had bought some Wheels for my J20 from a Chap in High Peak,45 mins away from Mansfield,a trip in the Van was planned.....I knocked on the Door to be greeted by the Family including two Huskies.Within a few minutes we were on his Grannies Drive where I was greeted by the old girl looking very sorry for herself, the Years had not been kind.A deal was struck and my Mate Dave collected it for me a few Days later.

Plans are first to get her back on the Road and then go for a stout drivetrain and something fruity in the Engine Dept, currently the Gearbox is Toast and Steering is dubious, not to mention a fair bit of Bodywork and removing an inch of sticky Goo from the bottom of the Glovebox would be nice.

Poor girl!

Looking forward to the build thread. :)

How did it end up with a 305 and an open diff? Or is it a standard car with SS badges?

As far a I know 305ci HO L69 Engine is factory for an SS(190bhp)

I have always assumed it had an open diff as I generally only got "one wheel peel" when I had it.

I absolutely love these.....Would love an SS!! 8-)

This was all the fault of NASCAR. Being a kid of the 80s I got hooked on it and absolutely loved the look of these two......always wanted one since then!

Yeah that was at the NATS too I think.
Poor sod though.
Somebody turned up in a later (90/00s) Chevy Goodwrech NASCAR that looked and sounded like a real deal 800HP NASCAR inside and out!

Look forward to the progress pics!!! :thumbright:

At the risk of embarrassing myself Miles,Pinks?

Considered a Grand National but they seem to be rarer and more valued, quicker too.

Pinks was a TV series where yanks bought their cars and raced for pink slips. Some good fun to watch.
As for the Grnad National, very much a different beast and now becoming very pricey.

Like the shape of this Monte and the only one I would have from the 80's.

Good find.

As a petrol head I appreciate all cars, but I probably wouldn't own one, I just seem to like 70's cars, due to age I suppose :oops What you remember as a kid maybe ?

Apart from the Mustang but that is retro 70's sort of, :?
