Help!!!

Been busy on the Polara over the last few months. Trouble is now that everything has been adressed, i have an electrical fault :P

Every time i switch on my headlights, the temp and fuel gauge go up until they are reading off the gauge.

The car has had a new voltage regulator, new headlight switch, all fuses checked and cables traced, checked and fuse box inspected all without fault. I know I need to rebuild the alternator as the voltage is fluctuating to much, but i dont know what else could be causing it.

I havent done anything to the electrical circuits in the car apart from adapting to halogen bulb headlights.

Any help would be great.

Cheers

Simon

Double check the earthing of the dash and also check the 5volt instrument regulator. The gauges work on 5 volts.

Will check the earthing again. If the instrument regulator was faulty, wouldn't that stop the gauges from working at all times? The gauges work fine until the lights are switched on. On a steep learning curve with these electrics, so any tuition is appreciated.

It could be that when the lights are on, as instrument bulbs go on as well there is a voltage that interferes with the feed to the gauge.

I will try these over the weekend and see how i get on. I am assuming the gauge regulator will be built into the fuel or temp gauge? do i just test to earth so i can verify it is running at 5 volts?

fixed, just to let those know who offered advice

Checked everything that you all suggested. Basically took all conections apart and cleaned them, cleaned bulb connections on pcb and checked earths......All good now :) Thanks for your help.
