Last night I'm out in the dark checking on a vibration in the driveline. Its busy I'm in the outside lane of the A30 and then without warning the motor starts to buck and attempt to cut out. There's no hard shoulder and I'm half a mile from the nearest exit.

I managed to keep her running and use both feet on brake and throttle to get around the exit roundabout.

Whatever the problem was it quickly dissipated and the car drove home fine. Never had the issue before.
Then there's the brand new carb with an off idle lean bog that is currently resistant to tuning out.
I parked the car, did some research on HEI ignition conversions and what to do about driveline vibrations

Anyone want a Roadrunner with a screamingly fun 340 ?

I've had moments. When I was popping ignition modules without warning leaving me stranded I got to the stage of 'one more and I'm setting fire to it and pushing it down the hill'. So yeah, been there.
BUT - once you do work through it (and you will) the magic comes back. The trust may take a while though !

If all else fails try going up on the power valve, normally sorts out a persistant off idle lean bog.

Cheers guys, I've actually used 3 different squirters. 28, 31 and 35 without improvement.

I should post a separate thread. dint want to mess with the power valve just yet as the carb responds excellently in every aspect except off idle.
That said, my Holley 670 liked a 3.5 valve and the motor is still the same, just different carb.

Just one of those 'winter blues' posts, I guess.

BIGGER! I put a 40 (something) on the Mustang to sort out that PoS 670 SA, which had the worst ever off idle bog.

Mike, I have a 40 but doesn't it need one of those hollow screws to fit it for correct usage?

I was told .38 + need a hollow.

I had to go fro ma .21 to a .42 to get mine running right off the line.

Also the electrics were shot that helped

Yep.......I get Bananarama! about it most times I work on it.

Every time that I work on it, I'm either left bleeding, knackered back, bruised/torn muscles or have bits of metal sticking out of my hands and arms.

But then I forget it for two to three weeks and get my Mojo back.

Can honestly say its the most infuriating car I've ever owned..........But its now so deep under the skin I couldn't ever see myself getting rid. I keep telling myself every step is one closer to the end goal.

I feel your pain! I’m on the scene because of nostalgia, a reminder of my “youth”. I took mine out yesterday instead of the work car – 150-odd miles return. I thought, this will be great!

Motorway, ok. Long miles? Weird noises, car smells a bit. No radio. Being overtaken by newer cars? Just like when I was young! Yay!

Coming home in the rain and the dark, wipers not working properly, lights not bright enough, being tailgated by a 4wd? Starting to think that I might Bananarama!? Having to drive at 20 mph when someone doesn’t dip their lights due to the dazzle (& probably annoying the tailgater)? Yes – bringing back memories of my youth. Bananarama! ones. Remembering that I desperately wanted to buy a more modern car.

Today is a new day though. Maybe I’ll take it to the office tomorrow (it’s only 10 miles give or take a bit. And daylight.).

Yes very nerve racking sometimes, my chally is down with and odd ps pump issue, new pump less than a year old and it is crap ,whining, stuttering, stalls,just one more thing I have to do, I do know and feel your pain ,it is always something

Well a little light this evening.
I crawled under the car and have the prop a good shake at the diff joint end; UJs are shagged as the prop was moving around a good 1/4". So, drops the prop and now need to order new joints.
If that simple job cures the driveline vibe I'll be very happy
