Hi Folks,
Would someone be kind enough to tell me what the correct grade of fluids I should be using in our MOPAR, please?
Engine oil (318)
Transmission (904 auto)
Rear axle (71/4)
PAS system
Brake system (drums all round non servo)
Additionally, how do I check the correct level in the PAS resevoire? There is no dipstick on the cap. Currently the level is right down at the bottom of the filler neck (cold) although I haven't had the opportunity to check the hot level (yet).
Thanks in advance,
Jon.

I'll start the bidding at-
Engine oil (318) - Millars classic 20/50 or anything with good ZDDP content
Transmission (904 auto) Dextron 2
Rear axle (71/4) EP80/90
PAS system - Contentious one, but most use Dextron 2
Brake system (drums all round non servo) Dot 4
As for level, if it's too high it might barf a load out when working & the temperture is up, by the sounds it's not far off.

Wot Mike said.
Only thing worth checking is I did read a thread a while back stating that correct Mopar power steering fluid should be used.
Given that I always used Dexron and all of my Mopes have had some degree of power steering leakage it might be worth a second opinion.
Or it could just be Mopars

I would recommend a dedicated power steering fluid but I wouldnt say it had to be Mopar

Thanks for that, gents. Duely noted!
Can anyone tell me more about this mopar specific PAS fluid?
I have everything else mentioned to hand already just don't have any PAS fluid in stock.

Not sure if this is a help or wrong advice. But I had a Kendal book from 1966 that covers all US cars. It states the steering fluid should be at base of neck when cold, half way up when hot.

Regarding power steering fluid. I was pointed in the direction of this place that sells the correct clear fluid. You have to call and order, can't order online. I got some and was delivered quickly.

Much appreciated.
The car has marked its territory but it's too wet to get it out and work out which bit is dribbling. I think it might be losing PAS fluid as I can see the top of the pump veins but it could easily be engine oil.
After 250 miles the engine oil on the dipstick is still like clear honey so at least it's been loved and serviced in the past!
All the best,
Jon.

regarding level on the steering pump ,just enough to cover the pump itself when running, you should not be able to see the top of the inner pump ,you may have a leaky seal on the pulley ,there is kits available ,just a pain to do

Cheers Terry. I think I possibly have a leak from the power steering box rather than the pump/reservoir. The weather was OK round here this morning so we decided to take the car out for a run and it left a drip outside the grandparents place in addition to the one on the garage floor.
There’s a bit of misting around where the column attaches to the 'box and there was enough fluid to mark a piece of tissue on the large nut that holds the pitman arm on.
I was reading up on those borgeson boxes last night and they seem to be getting good reviews. Maybe I should start thinking about saving up for one of those?
