So finally it's me and not my missus complaining about my annoying horn !

Seriously though, need to pull the steering on the Challenger to fix a non-cancelling indicator and though whilst I'm there I need to tackle the "annoying horn" thing.
If I turn hard either right or left whilst driving, I get an annoying small "toot" as the steering comes back to true.
Is this as simple as a bad wire ? I've not got under the steering wheel as yet ( talking of that, any weird springs that jump out ? ) - I'm guessing that there will be a plunger with a contact of sorts and it will be self-explanatory...... But I'm guessing ?

They are not very robust units and cannot be disassembled easily to their component parts.

Unless it is a very obvious fault then you may have to buy a new turn signal assembly.

You need a puller to get the wheel off - don't be tempted to whack the steering wheel, you could end up pulling the bearing out of its housing.

Yes

a wire comes up the column to the horn button

the horn button shorts that wire out to the metal steering wheel to activate the horn

so if the wire is worn in any way you will get the horn if it shorts

OR

if someone has mounted the horn button to the wheel centre using the wrong set of holes.

the buttons have 6 holes

3 are earthed to the steering wheel and 3 connect with whatever you use to push to toot the horn

if you use the latter 3 to mount the button on the wheel the screws act as a horn push bypass if you are not careful. and its just on all the time

you can however position them to get it to stay off but will eventually suffer it coming on if one of the screws works loose

i.e use the correct set of holes to bolt it down to your metal spoke wheel

and put the horn ring or horn push rubber-legs-pegs into or against the other holes.

if you need to take the wire out of the column

attach fishing line or your new wires to the top end

pull the wire out bottom end

pulling new wire in

or use fishing line to pull new wire in from the top

you won't need to though
Chances are the wire is worn at the top of the column near the big nut

you can buy a turn signal cancel cam on ebay US or ebay AUS

yours will have lost one of its tiny weeny bendy arms
