Jon & Nicola's '72 Dodge Demon

I suppose it’s time I put my own thread in this section.
We bought our Demon from Dave Madders in December 2015 after much advice and encouragement from members of the forum. The main thing that attracted us to the car was the honesty and straightness of the shell. It’s stunning underneath – never welded and no rust at all.
It had a repaint in the USA fairly recently to a good standard but retains all its original features like the original white top. It’s a fairly low option car. A 318 auto, 904 trans and baby axle with manual drum brakes all round. The only other options ticked were PAS, A/C and the white top.

As part of the deal, Dave fitted the 340 stripe kit for us. It was a bit of a trial by fire bringing the car home. I’d never driven a LHD vehicle other than the in laws smart car for about a mile. The demon had probably never seen rain in its life until that day. Heavy rain, rush hour traffic and then it started going dark… there was even a bit of snow in the air to contend with over the peaks!

We’ve not done too much to the car since we got it home – mostly lots of silly little jobs like removing overspray where we can, cleaning / polishing that sort of thing...
One of the very few faults that the car had was that the A/C heater unit didn’t work at all so I’ve had the dash out to replace the vacuum switch. That was a fun job… not!

As the above photo's show with the fitment of the stripes the car was visually at a bit of an uneasy stage - somewhere between muscle car and grandma? So, the latest little job has been to source and refub some 14” Rallye wheels. I managed to get a pair on here from Dunc (Thanks Dunc!
) and another three singles from a couple of other folk. I’ve also sourced and fitted some chrome front fender extensions and bonnet strip (Thanks Jim!
) so at least it looks fast even if it isn’t!
We'll have to work on the going faster thing next year... I just want to enjoy it for what it is for now!
