Hi guys, bought a new dash pad for my 71 duster recently, it comes with several threads that go through the dash to secure it, anybody know what nuts fit on these threads, it never came with any and i cant find a solid answer online

Cheers

They look like this and are made in different sizes.

You will also need a couple of screws for the lower end of the corners, I should have a complete set of nuts and screws as I just fitted a replacement to my car yesterday & it came with everything, I'm away until the weekend & can check. I know that I dropped one nut & didn't look too hard for it as I knew I had spares!

I read a thread recently that suggested it was a good idea not to bolt the ends down. Apparently with all the body flex it's these end bolts that cause the vinyl to crack?

It's usually the sun! Doesn't happen to cars that have been in the UK for most of their lives, they just rust!
Mine was only cracked in a few places on the upper face, nowhere near the ends.

I also read Dave999's post on not bolting the ends done. Said it allows it all some room to 'breathe' & not get stressed, with the body flex.

Can't do any harm & worth thinking about... could always bolt ends, but gently 'snug' them down

Cheers guys, when you talk about the 'ends' do you mean the parts of the pad that slope downwards either end? Because i dont have anything there, they only run across the top of the pad. Ill get a picture

yeah something I leaned in Oz the hard way

my pad wasn't bolted down at all and was Mint

bolted it all down after a bit of gauge cluster repair, few weeks later took it 20 miles inland (much hotter than at the coast) to get the gearbox rebuilt

it sat in the sun in a yard for 3 days

dash pad split in about 1000000000 places

asked the bloke what he did. As in what the !!!!! did you do

he said nuffin but have you recently had the pad out

I said yes

he said did you bolt down the ends

I said yes

he said that's your problem.

do up the two in the middle only it will stay put

heat UV anything that causes it to stretch will end up in cracks eventually

hence after $150 purchase of a spare and $350 re skin and my pocket lighter

I just do up the middle :)

the sun here in the UK can split a windscreen top to bottom from a tiny stone chip so I'm guessing it will have ya dash pad at some point in the next 40 years :)

mine is aussie. hence could be different

but my dash was held on with hex flange-lock nuts yellow zinc coated thingys with a petal type pattern to the lock side of the flange

those hollow PAL nuts are used on mine for the plastic trim

my car was previously assembled by an idiot so don't take it as gospel

flange lock nuts

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw= ... 9&_sacat=0

loads and loads of em

find a nut on your car engine that fits your dash pad thread

check that nut size and thread in the manual

order from someone who doesn't say they are mopar specific and they will be £5 for a bag of 40

if they say they are mopar specific it will be £2.99 per nut

Cheers rob, will message you

And yeah dave, a friend of a friend owns a duster, and when he first imported it he said the dash had cracks all over it from where it had been sat in the sun for ages.
