Future engine build planning

Evening all

I'm planning on putting a stroker kit into my original 383ci block. Have seen a few companies in the US( 440 source, muscle motors)selling a 496ci kit at roughly the same price.
I was just wondering if anybody had any thoughts on which kits would be a good buy.
Also, anybody's thoughts for doing the block machining work.

For the time being(money) I'm planning to use the original heads with a bit of work to them.

Already in the throws of a 3" exhaust with tubular headers

Thanks in advance for any help, hints or tips

I have had several strokers - Small Blocks, Big Blocks (440 & Hemi) but I have never done a 383.

They were not usually the tool of choice as it is simply easier with a 440.

Is it the matching numbers block?
If so then I would consider sourcing another block to preserve the original, but that is your choice.

Back in the day there were few after-market pistons with sufficient compression so it was another reason why 383's fell out of favour - I really like them.

It is worth checking the compression options for the kits with your heads - I assume you have open chamber ones but you never know.

Also worth considering the journal sizes.

Keep us posted with your build and thought processes :thumbright:

Not a clue on the originality as I haven't checked. I'll have a look at the weekend.

Reading both 440 source/muscle motors blurb on there kits they make it a simple operation.

I think I have 906 heads

I'll have to do a bit of research. When the time comes I'll hopefully put a detailed build up

I always think that a good and relatively cheap insurance policy is to install ARP stud kit on the mains, after all - they are only 2 bolt.
