TEMP (running to cool)

since fitting the scoop on my car driving along temp will not go above 150 im thinking this is too cool, on a real cold day a tad less i know its far from the hottest of days but even in traffic might go up to 160-170. i run a permanent driven fan without a shroud maybe a viscous would be better ? or remove fan and use elec fan, i also use a flow cooler ally pump standard size pulley, any thoughts chaps

Can you get a higher temp on opening thermostat Jim?

Jim, I have a 180 stat, Hemi viscous fan and Ali rad and it will also struggle to make 160 PM a cold day. Benefit is that it never sees more than 190 or so on the hottest day in traffic.
I suppose a more complex discussion would ask whether the oil temp is correct and viscous enough to keep things in order. I would have thought that correct lubrication would be more significant.

im with you there miles takes a few miles for oil pressure to drop slightly, dont forget its an ally headed 440. same principal i know but norm a lot harder to keep temps down on a r/b, i run a stock big block rad which had a recore, im thinking maybe it doesnt need a permanent driven fan, i only fitted that when i had an ally rad and used to get very hot

I wouldn't worry normally it's the other way round trying to keep these motors cool. Just check a few things as suggested no airlock or anything like that.

Can you remember if you drilled any holes in the thermostat allowing the coolant to circulate quicker Jim when it was running hot?

theres a 1/8th hole in it mike which i do pretty much all the time with stats, seems to cure any air lock probs

Reading through this agian, I'd fit a viscous fan. They seem to do a god job and don't waste power either. Think my big Hemi version was about $50 and well worth it. That scoop is probably loading cold dense air into the engine bay. Great for warmer months but not what we've had recently.

Have you tried blocking the scoop, just to eliminate that this is the problem?

no yet bryan i did think about it but the air filter is right at the top of the scoop and covering a fair bit of the gap but i guess it gets around it, like miles says maybe go back to a viscous or take the fan off and give it a run round (i have an elec fan on the front) from when i had the ally rad in
