Fix needed - temp probe too long/deep for water jacket !

Flummoxed !
I bought one of those generic 3-dial setups for the challenger as I was pretty sure my oil pressure and water temp dials were either disconnected or faulty.
Today, Justin (Dart Vader) and I successfully got the oil pressure rigged up but when trying to install water temp probe we found out (as he had before on his dart) that it's just too long and, in my case hits metal before the threads even meet.
The kit had a bundled extender but it was way too big, Justin had one that was sadly too small - so question is this :
Do you have one ?
Seriously though, I first need to ascertain what the actual thread into the water-jacket is on my 340, and then need to figure out what the name is for the doohickey I need ?
Temp probe adapter ? Temp probe extender ?
Is there a work-around or perhaps a dial that has a short probe ?
Thanks all

:help:

Manifold is 3/8" NPT, you need a water temp gauge adaptor, Auto meter make them.

Sorry, job's a bad 'un! You don't want an NPT to NPT adapter, the temp gauge sender is a straight thread with a flat seat, you need the right part ( Autometer 2272/2373/2271) and quite possibly you won't find one in the UK.

Hang about -
Blue, if the temp probe screw is a 3/8 NPT thread (and this would seat into the water jacket ) - surely, all I'm doing is extending that connection in order to shorten my temp probe ? Hence 3/8 NPT female to 3/8 NPT male - this is, in essence, the exact same fitting, just longer .....#
Made for thermostat probes for US fridge freezers as far as I can ascertain ...

I also see you used the term "temp gauge sender" - the one I'm using is a mechanical device - much like a large thermometer probe that actually just makes contact with the water in order to read temp - nothing electric here ...
Got me all confused !

As Blue stated you need an adaptor with the correct seat, I had the same problem.

Sincerest apologies Gents - you were right and I was wrong !
How annoying that even without an adapter, it never would've fit in the first place.
How do I know the thread on the captive bolt now ?
Stateside it is then. Unless someone has a spare.

I don't know what the thread is on the sender but having used several different makes over the years, they do all seem to be the same.
