Hi - has anyone got first hand experience of Speedmaster CNC heads? I have seen some reviews and video about them and the feedback is mixed. If someone has fitted or got first hand knowledge of these some consumer feedback will be much appreciated.

I am looking at buying these;
Mopar Chrysler SB 318 360 170cc 65cc Hydr-R Complete Aluminum Cylinder Heads

Thanks in advance for the feedback

Steve

No personal experience of these heads but some thoughts. They are Procomp heads, Procomp basically copy exsisting American products and produce them in China much cheaper, some of there stuff is ok, thier MSD rip off ignitions I wouldn't touch with a barge pole.
You will rarely get a fair critique of anything made in China on the American boards, to them anything made in the USA is automatically superior and that's far from the truth. The thing with aftermarket heads is is the machining any good and is the casting porous, both down to Quality control. The Chinese tend not to care too much about that and increasingly neither do the Americans.
The pricing is about half what you would normally expect to pay for such a head, that always rings alarm bells with me, you generally get what you pay for where heads are concerned.

Thanks to all who responded - I have since moved my attention to a set of heads from;

Summit Racing - https://www.summitracing.com/parts/dcc-5153849

or perhaps a set from

Hemi Performance - https://www.hemiperformance.com.au/shop ... block.html

They look like the same heads on both links

HP like to brand everything Hemi performance....

and you don't want to have to cover his import duty from US to AUS as well as your own AUS to ireland

keep an eye on exchange rate

if not hell bent on aluminium

cast in NZ

meant to be pretty good

I bought these for my 340 and had Ron ship, them over
Superb quality, beehive springs to .625 lift and all high quality hardwear.
Still iron, but you won't find a bad word spoken about Brian Hafliger at IMM.

Takes out any guesswork about quality. He's fitted these to a blueprinted 360 and pulled 400hp with just bolt ons.

Hi Dave

Excellent point, however the cost of the heads from Summit is considerably more than from HP - even with the HP duties etc. covered in the resale price; the HP heads are the fiscally better option on paper.

Import to Ireland is 23% of the Euro value and as the AUD$ is the lower of the currencies and the price out of the box is lower, the HP heads are the front runner at present. Shipping is usually not too big a factor for this weight or large size of item (normally very similar) - but is definitely factored before the credit card hits the desk.

Hi MilesnMiles

I have email IMM in the past but they never responded - even after follow up emails - so I read into that they were not interested in dealing with Ireland. Pity I liked the sound of their gear.

In general on the engine front:
I am in negotiations with Tom from accurate engines in California regarding a re-manufactured long block and if that pans out then the heads will no longer be an issue. I am looking for a OEM or as close as possible to OEM specifications motor.

No interest in big horse power or lumpy idles for this vehicle; reliability, reliability and more reliability, no finicky fuel problems or strange running issues or delicate timing problems :help: :P - just turn the key and go  - motorway cruiser, coffee and cars participant and hangar Queen for most of the year when I am not here. I have plans of driving through Europe to classic car shows there and enjoying the drive - so stand up and bark is not in the requirements.

I have a Ute which I might use for the smoking traffic light departures 8-)

If you don't want any of these things maybe a Mopars not for you :D
It's in there breeding !!!

Steve, a broader question. You've said what your aims are not, I'm wondering what more specifically you want from ali heads etc.
By this I mean, what is the motor? Is it a 318 or 360 I which case you have very low compression piston set up and ali heads and big valves, ports etc could actually hinder matters, especially if you have a stock cam.
As always, its in the package. just wondering what the package was?

Might find that a decent cam that build cylinder pressure and arear gear change would have the cost impact on the car by the seat of the pants, so to speak.

Years ago I had a stock 318 Dart. fitted aXE262 comp cam and a set of 3.23 gears and the car came (relative to what it was before) a different car and much more enjoyable to drive. Didn't cost much to do.

Scooby - hundred percent spot on!

MilesnMiles The car came with a 318 fitted - did consider putting it back to a 225 but that would be reallyyyyyy expensive to do here - shipping costs, mounts, transmission etc.

So I thought look into a rip snorter pull like a good thing engine build. The previous posts about heads was part of the researching into rebuilding the engine and going the lumpy idle tyre howling build. But that would have limited the usability of the vehicle and since finding an excellent paint and body guy, my direction has gone to stock-ish drive train with hopefully a nice jump in and drive "reliability" and then take the car to shows and rallies in Europe.

I posted the couple of projects on the car I started this leave break back from the desert - comfy seats for the long drives, tubular front end suspension to tighten up the road holding and increased disk brake size for better braking.

The suspension and brakes did not get completed as I ran out of time and needed some extra parts but the direction has been started. http://www.moparuk.com/forums/viewtopic ... highlight= the basic vision is laid out there

Hi MilesnMiles,

I always welcome constructive input. It is great to hear how others have approached matters and what issues they overcame, where they sourced parts and what tricks they bring to the party.

Take Dave999, he is so knowledgeable about the Mopars and suppliers it is great when he sees a post and passes on this information.

The comment made by drewcrane regarding sway bars and frame connectors - I am considering them - so that could be why I am happy with his feedback 8-) 8-) 8-), but it has encouraged me to look more seriously into them.

If some one sees my post and thinks they would like to fit different seats it might help them - the grey seats were the second set of seats I bought for that car as the first ones were too high.

Fortunately the first set of seats (out of a Ford Mondeo) will not go to waste as I can fit them into a 79 Holden HZ Ute I have which is getting panel and paint just now. I already have the console and floor shifter for that vehicle to finish the swap. So it will be bench out - electric leathers in and new console and floor shifter. Should there still be height issue, then I will locate another set of Cayenne seats and fit those and sell on the Ford seats.

Should look nice and the new seats are way more comfortable than the saggy old bench seat in there at the moment.

No problem, here chap. It's a shame Bryan at IMM didnt repsond. I phoned him and he sent the RHS heads to me via Ron Fenton; was very happy to store them until the boat was due to sail.
Sub frame connectors seem wise once the power comes up. Need to do the same with my Fox.
As for Dave999, go for a beer with him. You Will be entertained

If it's not a performance upgrade you're after, I'd steer clear of aftermarket heads, you'd just be spending a ton of cash for no good reason.
