How the hell do you stop sump gaskets leaking?!!!

I've had the sump off a few times now, I used new gaskets and seals last time and top quality silicone and it still oozes quite a bit.
Any top-tips please?
I suspect the dipstick tube may be leaking as well.
Is it just a push-in or is there a circlip or summat inside?

With sumps that have been off to many times, I always put instant gasket both sides of the new cork or rubber gasket, but gotta be 100% clean
once you;ve scrapped most of the old gasket off, I use a fine scotch bright to make it shiny smooth and lots off brake cleaner to get rid of any oil

Cheers Andy, I've not been very thorough with cleaning tbh. Hopefully this time I'll get the bugger to seal

You may have to gently beat it in a couple of places, make sure it's straight. If it's been pryed off there's a good chance or if the bolts have been over tightened you'll need to dress it up around the holes.

There is a one piece small block oil pan gasket available these days which should work well. I have one but I've not used it yet.

The side rails seem ok, it's the front and rear seals I struggle with.
The motor side of it is bloody awkward to get at, they don't stay put when you try to manouver the sump into place. They don't quite fit exactly, there's always a poor join between the end seals and side gaskets....
A one-piece would eliminate at least some of my problems. Where did you see them Blue?

I think mine's a Milodon 41007, no doubt Fel Pro have them as well as others. I suspect it's an OEM gasket for late model small blocks, looks like it could be reusable as well.

Terry, what year is your motor? - the Summit listing says it fits 92-on.

Hmm, I can't find a single-piece gasket to fit a smallblock.
Any ideas folks?

The 41007 works on LA 360 engines.

Nice one cheers Blue. I've just ordered mine.
The cheapest anywhere is from Summit via ebay... £55 with UK delivery (at $1.19 to the pound, grrr!) Plus the dreaded tax o'course, double grrr!

My sump is now sealed by the way. That gasket works great
I'm sure it'll fit the 318, click the link it'll say on the ad.
