fuel vapourising problem sb 360 2bbl

When I brought my cj at would barely run at low speeds due to the fuel boiling in the carb & tremendous intake heat (temp gauge ok) which was caused by the flap in the exhaust manifold being closed all the time forcing hot exhaust through the intake, I've fixed the flap into continuous open position & it now runs so much better. However if I get stuck in traffic & the temp gauge begins to climb a bit the idle starts becoming lumpy & I can see bubbles appearing in the fuel filter (on top of the intake) like the fuel is starting to vapourise, I've wrapped the fuel hoses in foil to try help. Is it best to fit a metal fuel filter or do you guys have any other cures ? Thanks shaun

This maybe due to modern fuels. Fit an ally manifold or if staying original, a spacer between carb and manifold would probably help.
In addition, fit an inlet manifold gasket that blocks off the heat risers in the manifold which will reduce inlet temps

Are you running the original mechanical fuel pump? My 49 Caddy which was all original with a 2 barrel carb used to do this in traffic, we put an electric fuel pump under the car and a hidden switch under the dash, if in traffic the fuel started to boil we would just switch the pump on and it would push the fuel through, when we got moving again, just flick the pump off. I wanted to keep the car stock appearing under the hood.

Hi yes it has the original mech pump, I'm gonna try get hold of a carb spacer & re-route the fuel line as much as possible. Shaun
