ok,here we go ..
R/H indicators slow to flash, L/H normal.
With the L/H flashing R/H rear flash dimly,
with the L/H rear units unplugged and L/H selected, L/H front and R/H rear flash

ok other way round.
I've checked the grounds at the back and all good,I'll have to re position the car to get to the fronts.
Plan is to check all earths, and wiring where pos without breaking into the looms, next replace the flasher unit, then attack switch.
question:-
1/where can I source a switch from? not listed on the few sights I've been on
2/ there's an under dash voltage regulator, would this affect it if duff.
3/why does this happen when its cold and dark

Sounds like an earth problem there somewhere, check all earths, clean bulb holders and change bulbs too.
New switches are out there, for example-

ID yours and hope you don't have a tilt column, although they may also be out there.

Which model are we talking? I had an issue like that with a Barracuda some years ago, found out it was a bad earth between the crimped in bulb holder and the reflector which provided the earth through the mounting screws. Must have had some corrosion between the two parts as everything was tight, bit of solder smeared across the join on the back fixed it. Try running separate earths to your bulb holders to check for that.

Same issue on my RR. A soldered earth from bulb holder to ground sorted it out.

Hunting down and cleaning all my ground connections fixed pretty much every lighting, dash, gauge problem I had with the Demon
I also replaced the bi-metal flasher "can" with an electronic one from eBay and now all the indicators have a steady and clear " tick-tock-tick-tock-tick-tock-tick-tock-ti...............

sorry left the indicator on

Earths and then as James said,m replace the flasher unit with a modern electronic one, £10 from Moss, fits all UK classics and our cars. Best £10 ever spent on my Challenger.

ok I'm going in! if anyone notices a blinding flash followed by smoke it could be me

local proper car spares place has electronic flashers on the shelf bit dearer than Moss and Frost but at least I can point and ask for one of these please and not have to supply Vin number address and inside leg measurement

well that went well, after simply removing the bumper

I added extra earth cables from each lamp,,,sort of fixed it still got an occasional flash on both sides tho, oh now there were no brake lights

the turn switch had given up.power from the brake light switch was getting as far as that then disappearing,I decided not to pay the $500 for an OEM item on ebay and got one from Rodley motors, still made me wince tho but hey, I now have brake lights and indicators that only flash on the side selected

so now for the fuel gauge.....
