aftermarket Amp meter fuse keeps blowing

So i've connected one of those generic 3-dial binnacle systems under my dash.
Oil pressure works a treat, as does the water temp.
However, following the instructions to fit the + - Amp meter is a pain in the arse.
I've sent a pos+ wire throuth the bulkhead and attached to the starter relay switch and added (thankfully) an inline fusible link which keeps blowing.
The ground just goes to a ground on the bulkhead itself.
The fuse won't even go into it's block - just blows the minute it touches (30amp) - obviously something's not right, but it's hardly a complicated circuit???
reversing the wires at the rear of the dial would only give a reverse reading, so I'm guessing that there is just too much current at the starter relay just from the battery feed - this is how the included leaflet said to wire it.
Am i just being bloody thick ? If yes, break it to me gently please
:help:

Garp, it shouldn't be earthed, not like you have done anyway. One wire to 12v source and the other to alternator circuit. You're blowing it by grounding it!

I'd wire one side to switchable live via the fuse box and the other side to the alternator circuit. There may be a separate terminal for ground

Ah, you see my ones leaflet says to do that was for all cars except Chrysler - something about magnetic starter switch.
I'll just pretend it's not a Chrysler !!!
Cheers Miles, fix it tomorrow

Dunno what that means means

I'd just check the back of the gauge and match it to the posted instructions.
I'm getting familiar with wiring as currently (pun...) I'm retiring my ignition switch etc..
