Trans question - Dunc?

The ball & trunnion is worn on my prop and I'm looking at possible solutions...
Is it possible to swap the flange output shaft to a normal splined one? Then I can just get a normal prop made.
Trans is a 1970 727 Loadflite.
Cheers

I'm racking my brains here, I'm pretty sure those short tailshaft torqueflites all had flanged outputs. If later ones didn't then you should be able to swap the output shaft. Trouble with that plan is the box has to come out and be totally stripped to change it. And then you need a new prop making with a standard slip yoke. I think the easiest/ cheapest way is a new prop with a slider built in like Mike's, that shouldn't be any great challenge for a decent prop company.

flange
I'd suggest this could be the wrong size if a load flite and a push button torqueflite have a different output bolts spaceing.
I don't have a van parts book to compare with an early car

Hey paul job sorted, A= you are not daft and a bit of fab work does not phase you so,
if you wanted to convert what you have the box has to come out and a full strip to swap parts so,
lets go with a regular car length torqueflite, and a slipper prop, make yourself a mount similar to your belve a bit of fab work will kill it, if the extra length is running close to that chassis crossmember thing that i can see toward the rear just clearance it i cant see why it wont work ????

Blimey, you lot are ace
I've only had time to scan through all the links but the conversion looks pretty straightforward with all the parts Dave has linked to.
I like your idea too Dunc, I was planning to bring you the trans before long for a 'freshen-up'. The fluid was a bit smoky when I changed it.
I'll have a proper look and a think and a measure. Thanks guys

I'm going with Dunc's plan. Trans is hopefully coming out tonight. At least the rain has stopped
