Never seen that car at any shows or the track before. I know these cars have a strong following and a high value in Oz but I would be staggered if anyone in the UK would be interested in a 4 door car at anywhere near that price.

And it says its an HO Clone. As Jon says these old Fords and Holdens go back to Peter Brock and Bathurst in the 70's but not many are familiar over here. Seller must be hoping there is an Aussie living over here in the market.

These are the holy grail in Oz, the extra guages and carb thru the bonnet dont make it attractive IMO.
They didnt do this shape in 2 door, first 2 door were the XA coupe.
I would guess its been here a long time judging by the number plate, possibly an Aussie diplomat car or similar back in the 70's.

If you want to know what these cars are about, just go and watch Bathurst racing from the 70s. Blinding stuff!

I'm sure Sandy will know loads about this as he is the man for Aussie Fords.

A similar car frequented RWYBs at the Pod back in the early 80s. Red 4 door with a factory 351 Cleveland. Used to run 13s with skinny street tyres. Quite the sleeper.

Adam, did the car at the Pod have a shaker scoop?

Only two real XY GT's came to the UK back in the day and neither were red.

No, not a shaker Sandy. IIRC it did have a scoop sitting off centre on the hood.

Was it a 4 speed Adam? I have the vaguest memory of a boxy Australian Ford like that running at the pod in the '80's. fairly quick, 4 speed and not being able to get the power down is all I can remember for sure....

if its an XY Fairmont with HO spec interior is it Australian or Australian via south Africa?

the south African Fairmonts had the HO lights interior bits n bobs but none of the Bathurst spec running gear

ideal basis for a falcon HO Phase II or phase III clone

if you wanted a 2 door you need a rare US 68 or 69 falcon 2 door

and then the bits off a South african fairlmont to HO clone it

to build a aussie car that never was.

stock standard E49 charger still beat em in the 1/4 mile even if top speed was less.

they went all torrino esque in 1970 and a 1/2

I prefer the fat Cortina mk2 look I think

That would be an XW GT then, Adam.

Interesting. There as only one XW GT officially exported to the UK and it was an auto, and not red.

Any pics ? :D
