Seems photobucket has got greedy, no 3rd party hosting now unless you subscribe to their 500GB plan at $399 a year.
Really mucked my threads up the (insert appropriate profanities here) :x :x :x :x

Any recommendations for alternative hosting sites?

you can just add pictures from your computer to this site as an attachment.

photobucket are trying to hold forum photos to ransom so for that i'm finished with them. their site is too buggy anyway.

Totally agree :x Always been a fan and user of their site for using on here, so you can post a hundred, or more photos in one go, but I'm finding lately (within the last year or so) it crashes too often trying to upload them and then also trying to get the link to post.

I've filled up 2 free accounts worth (home and work email addresses) and I'm now on my 3rd (ironically a made up Yahoo address that I had to have to create a Flikr account!) which is filling up rapidly.

If only Flikr had the same function where you could get a link for photos to post on places like this I'd just use them as they have a much larger free limit.

I can see myself joining the lazy so an so's soon and just posting a link to an album (Flikr or facebook) , rather that trying to post all the photos :)

Edit - I didn't realise their new settings has cocked up any previously posted pics/links/threads.... sumbitches :x

So have you paid the ransom money to photobucket or found a way round their shenanigans?
Honestly didn't know what you were on about there Rob, so I googled it, hmmm, seems there's been a bit of a kerfuffle over at photobucket, not aware I've done anything to get around that and I've definitely not paid any ransom, maybe they back tracked on their decision?? or they've not implemented it yet?? gonna be pretty dull round here if all the photos disappear, has anyone else been affected??

:thumbright:
Hi Si, Well that's odd. I just managed to upload a new pic to one of my accounts and managed to copy the link to this post, but as you can see, all I get is the 'update your account' message :x
When I checked a couple of days ago all my recent pics posted via photobucket had been affected in this way too :P

I need to find a solution tho as I have 200+ pics from yesterday to post somehow... :)

There is a photobucket thread in General relating to this so i'll keep the relevant posts in that thread rather than clogging up this one :thumbright:

righto Rob

1 thing i'm doing different, i've only got 1 account, it's only 14% full but i have 11685 photos in it, this is because i've always shrunk my photos (always keep original copy separate) to 800 x 600 before uploading, so each of my photos is only 100 to 150kb instead of the original 3 to 4MB or more from modern DSLR

i'm clutching at straws here but wonder if file size has got anything to do with it??

Well I've started the slow process of relinking the photos in my build thread  no way I'm paying photo-crooks $400 a year :x

They charged me £25 a couple of years back as I was using it for business.
No doubt that'll "run out" at some point and they'll want more out of me...

I've just encountered this myself. I'm using Flickr at the moment which is pretty easy to use in the same way as photobucket.

Once you've uploaded the photo to Flickr you need to click on the photo from the 'photostream' page to bring it up in its main window. You'll see the share 'arrow' in lower right, click this and you get a pop-up window with an embed option. Click embed and just copy and paste the highlighted text into the forum post.

Yes I also managed to get a Flikr photo on here ok but the main problem we (Si 'Charger' and I, to name two) are having is getting a link for an album, so you can post a whole album in one go, rather than having to get the link for individual pics and copy'n'paste them one at a time (like we used to have to do in photobucket until a coupe of years ago)

I've read that IMGUR is sposed to have that ability but couldn't find it as any online instructions with screenshots, didn't match the actual webpage that I was seeing once in the program

I've not posted albums before so don't know. I heard Imgur prohibit 3rd party posting in their t&c's but people do it anyway!

I started using postimage.org,think it's based on the imagur web design, just had a quick look and I think you can post album links though they call them gallery's.
