Thursday to Sunday, July 5 to 8, 2018
One of the biggest car shows in Europe was situated on Johannisbergs airfield from Thursday to Saturday
My second visit, I was a bit apprehensive this time, second times don’t always live up to the first, how wrong was I, this year was better than my first visit in 2016. The main contributor to this was hiring mountain bikes, it transformed the experience in that we got about the place so much quicker than walking, in turn meant we crammed so much more into the weekend, and provided much additional hilarity
We got to all the key venues in double quick time, the car show (2 days), Armageddon (twice), Ikea, Autotec. One of the highlights of this trip wasn’t even auto related, watching England wallop Sweden in the World Cup quarter final on the Saturday afternoon in a pop-up bar in the middle of Vasteras surrounded by yellow shirts, it could have gone very wrong, but was all friendly, lots of handshakes at the end of the game, fantastic experience probably never get to repeat that again
Johannisbergs attractions include a sound off, cafes / bars, as well as the cars, bikes, choppers and bobbers, helicopter tours, lifestyle corner, car coral buy and sell, judging of cars, car care corner, swap meet, car clubs. The winner of this year’s sound off competition was a ‘68 Dodge Dart GTS
Armageddon, nicknamed many years ago and it stuck, cos, well, it’s like Armageddon, a gas station out to the west of the city on the cruise route at the junction of Johannisbergsvagen and Kopingsvagen , they sell gas, there’s a cafe and bar, then by night it’s rammed with classics, some call in for gas, others just call in to party, it’s crazy and loud … and they’re still selling gas
Halla Shopping Centre (formerly known as Ikea) hosts the legal burnout, Thursday, Friday & Saturday evenings. This is the only place in town where burnouts are legal during the weekend.
Shop of Autotec is open Thursday, Friday & Saturday, 7am – 12am, at Signalistgatan 14, will repair your car during Västerås Summer Meet. They do all ordinary repairs and have a large inventory of 5000 parts for American cars. In the evenings they also have bands on
