i removed the rocker assembly from one of the heads on my 383 which came from a '71 jensen. i've looked online but can't find a match for the casting number.
it's 2843963, the 9 could be an 8 but it looks to be a 9. did jensen big blocks have odd non mainstream casting numbers?
cheers, neil.

some parts have numbers to indicate the tooling and the casting day as well. which helps to confuse matters as there often appears to be no documentation or rhyme and reason to them.

thanks for the replies. someone on forabodiesonly asked if there were gaps between the 9, 6 and 3 at the end which there is. apparently it's a 906 and it wasn't uncommon to miss the 0 and have a 3 also afterwards. i took the tin valley gasket off to check the numbers under the inlet ports and it's a 906 head. checking the other side it has a 346 head there. they came out in 71 and some leftover 906 heads went on to use them up. other than induction hardened valve seats on the 346's they are said to be much of a muchness.
neil.

People used to think 906 heads were something special but in reality a 452 is just as good and probably easier to find. And when I say good I really mean least worst as none of them are up to much without hours of porting so just use whatever you have.

that's about what i've read too blue, they'll be just fine. i'll swap them for some better ally ones as and when it gets a proper build. for now it'll be more or less a freshen up. i'm pretty sure the crank wants a grind as he said the oil pressure wasn't great (he still went on a european trip with it though) even after fitting new shells.
neil.
