Sealing split rims

One of my front tyres is losing air and I've discovered that it's due to air escaping from around the wheels stud holes. the wheel is a 4.5" (alluminium) Centreline (I think) split rim.

Has anybody tried re-sealing one of these? I was going to proceed by letting the air out of the tyre and undoing all the bolts around the rim. Clean up the inside and use some gasket sealer prior to bolting the rims together with the tyre between the two halves.

Anybody know of any problems with doing it like this? Any advice on the type of sealer I should use and what I should torque the bolts up to?

Cheers.

Hi Trev, did you split the rim and if so, did it go back together OK?

Yes , i split the rim , cleaned it thoroughly then used scotchbrite on the mating surfaces , it all came apart ok and was no trouble to put back together.
