Propshaft UJ's

Well, Loretta let me down for the first time in 5 years today, grenaded her rear UJ on a trip to the dump. Thankfully I have recovery as part of my insurance. She was a small block car originally, although she came to me with a 440. I'm sure I've read somewhere that there are different sized UJs, presumably for small and big bock cars ? I'm assuming she'd have the small ones, (they looked pretty weedy) Does anyone know what's involved to upgrade while its in bits? :help:

Prop, Yoke, and Differential Yoke change to 7290 or bigger.

Cheapest option is a combination joint on the rear but hat leave a weak point....

I went down this route when i changed the rear axle and the prop no longer fitted.
As pete says you can get a conversion UJ ( i might even have one in the spares pile) but i decided to get it all matching strength in the end. Hausers made me a new prop and it wasnyt bank-breaking.

The smaller 7260 UJ came on most things I think, for general road use I wouldn’t consider an upgrade to larger UJ’s to be needed. Just replace with the solid body non greasable type and be done with it.
