Fitting a used performer intake

Hi all,

Daft small question, I have a used performer inlet from the states, cleaned up ok, threads all good.

I have a felpro 72' 360 full engine gasket set which I think has the metal 'stamped' oe style intake gaskets.

I understand not using the cork ends (Thick bead rtv instead) and removing the dowl is recommended however...
- Can I used the FELPRO metal stamped intake gasket?

Edelbrock recommend this:

Cheers,

Not fully the same but my Offenhauser had no holes for the dowel, so I drilled some slightly wider than the dowel so it had some wriggle room. I still used the cork gaskets at the ends.

You normally use a composite gasket with aluminium intakes, the stamped metal ones are for use with iron intakes. No doubt the differing expansion rates of iron and aluminium is the reason.

Oh, I've used the metal ones. Maybe I will have some issues then?

if you have problems an expanded graphite gasket might be the key...

pressed louvred steel shim with graphite either side about 1 mm thick. can be used two or 3 times if it needs to come off and will accommodate mismatch due to machining to a small extent.

works good on hemi and slant 6 where the gasket is shared between inlet and exhaust so just inlet should be no bother

Big blocks have a valley tray with built in steel shim gaskets, I've used used those with both iron and aluminium intakes without issue many times, so perhaps it isn't that much of an issue in reality.
