Evening all
I need a V8 rev counter for my Cortina project.
Has anyone fitted any of the aftermarket ones?

Or should I buy a used Gen V8 one ?

A lot depends on whether you are running an MSD set up or not.

If not, then any generic Rev counter that supports 8 cylinders should work and connected to the coil.

Ah! had to look up MDS, now know it electronic ignition. ;)

No just the good old points for the moment, My question really is are the Japanese ones any good? But since posting, Ive looked at a few on YouTube. Hmm'' not impressed, to I will go for a gen V8 from something

generic coil triggered tacho... for v8...

the modern ones run off a specials square wave signal from a specific tacho module in an ignition
the old style just count what amounts to an Echo of the spark being produced that they see as a back EMF in the primary of the coil.

1 wire to coil negative is the usual mopar set up

unless you get an ancient sunpro in which case it has a box with lots of wires

Auto meter stuff is pretty good quality and they do a full gauge range should you want any other matching instrumentation. Summit or jegs will carry the full range, Real steel here in the UK will stock some of it.

I popped a baby-sunpro on. Sits on the column, runs 1 wire straight from the coil. (with MSD all in 1).
Wasnt expensive, works fine.
Just make sure whatever you buy has a setting/switch for V8 ! Otherwise it'll count wrong...
