Interesting commentary on the crazy prices that Chargers now attract.

Buyer beware really sums it up!

Thanks for posting - the price for this one was a bit of an eye-opener but I recall we used to see Barret-Jackson auctions on TV a while back and I was always surprised how may lots had a failed brake light as they crossed the block which I always considered a sign that the preparation may not have been to the standard you might expect. Caveat Emptor indeed.

I suspect a lot of cars that go through Barrett Jackson just move from one collection to another and see little or no use.

There is a thread about this car on DodgeCharger.com where they pick out all of the faults.
I can only imagine someone had an emotional attachment to the car to pay that kind of money for it!

Yep he doesn't quite do the finger pointing thing as well as Vice Grip Garage.
Now he's a funny guy.
Frightful bodges though on that car. Ridiculous price even for a minter.

There were a couple of black Chargers at the NEC:
a 68 badged as an RT with a 440
a 70 with a 318.
Steve said the 68 was up for around £140k and the 70 for around £120k.
Ludicrous.

I used to think that it only takes one person to want it enough to pay that sort of money but I dont think that anymore. I just dont think anyone will pay it these days. If its an investment, you are then looking to find someone willing to pay a lot more in a few years and you have to take into account storage, maintainance, using it to stop it needing work, insurance and fuel costs etc running up to that next level sale.

I would also be worried about the future of classic cars with that much tied up in one. As well as potentially making lots of money, in this percieved league there is potential to lose a huge amount of money if the bottom falls out of the market on the back of net zero emmission goals, rising fuel costs etc.

Maybe I will watch it a minute at a time with a coffee in between episodes :thumbright:

It was only 5 or 6 years a good 68/69 could be had for £30k. The Classic car market bubble is well and truly happening. With inflation at the moment, it seems people are investing in cars.

The ‘68 Charger market is crazy and people will lose thier shirts investing in them at the prices people are wanting right now. Personally if I was looking at an investment cars would be the last thing I’d be throwing loads of money at.

On a more serious note - I dont know what IS a sensible price.
My last valuation was TonyO (:() and was £40k I think - this is the one I have lodged with insurance. At the time I thought it was a full figure but prices were edging up so probably ok. I dont know what to think now.

Whats everyone else got their 68's at ? PM fine if we find this distasteful... (brits discussing money)
