Removing ProSport tacho

My Barracuda has a ProSport Monster tacho which I want to remove, I just don’t like the look of it in the car, it’s too modern and too big, especially as I won’t be racing. At this stage I’d like to avoid diving into the rats nest of wiring under the dash, the PO installed a few lights connected to the shifter as well as switching for an electric fan so it’s a bit of a puzzle in there.

For the time being I’d like to cut the wires to the tacho and wire them to a 4 way plug, so later when the interior is more sorted I can connect a smaller tacho back in. My question is will just terminating the wires in a plug cause any problems, from what I can see it’s set up to take its signal from the coil.

In the long run I want to remove the electric cooling fan and install the mechanical one and I also need to recondition and reinstall the heater/fan unit which is out at the moment, so until then if I can just terminate the wires that would be ideal.

unless it has some kind of driver box under the hood
no problem

one is from coil negative
you may have a switched 12 volt feed for light and potentially any fancy tacho duties above and beyond a needle pointing at a number.... i.e if it has circuitry for shift lights etc

depending on the mount you may have an earth/ground wire

Thanks Dave, it's a basic tacho no shift lights or memory, 4 leads out; green to coil, red to ignition, white to dash lights and black to ground. I'll cut and wire them to a connector for later on. Cheers Matt.
