I had a fairly stock LS 400 really good car , drove it all over Europe , put LPG on it so'i could use the forklift bottles .i have a complete engine sat on my “ another day “ shelf, it’s an all aluminium v8 .4 litres , quad cam , 32 valve , forged crank, six bolt mains with a fairly healthy aftermarket menu, the problem for me is the electronics, so after asking about and a bit of Internesting, I was happy to find it fairly straightforwards to loose all the efi , egr , TPS , CPS ,MAFS , MAps , etc including the huge ignition system , and our mates in New Zealand have given us a tunnel ram set up .Nothing is ever as easy as off with the old on with the new but I see it as a good foundation.
These engines in stock form are 250-260bhp and if looked after have been good for 500 , 600 , 700 , 800 , and 900,000 miles on stock internals , so a regular diet of water pumps, belts , oils and filters seem to keep the platform happy.
Most of the lads I spoke to in this country that use and rate these engines were Into drifting and occasional drag races. Many using just a head gasket spacer and trick ignition before turbo charging , I’m just looking aspirated.
Looking forwards to getting mine on the bench early next year .It will be going into an old dodge PUT
Will document as usual.
