sebring help please

Hi
Sorry if this is a bit off topic but im getting desperate. The wifes 2002 Automatic Sebring has developed a transmission fault. Basically when braking it makes a thud - as if the gears arnt changing at the correct time. Its also difficult to get into drive occasionally.We have done a basic gearbox service but that hasnt helped.

Suspecting it is an electrical or Chip problem - although its weird as it only occurs when the car has warmed up a bit

All the problems developed immediately after we got the car back from having a minor bumper repair done by a local garage- although this could be coincidence

Any Ideas or anyone know where I could take it without getting ripped off?

Apparently the A604 trans used in the early '90s had a problem that behaved the same as this, and was down to the controller; nobody has stepped up with experience of newer transmissions though.

If you contact a Chrysler dealer (or maybe Skippy on here) they should be able to tell you if there's any service bulletins relating to it, which would be a start ;)

If I find out anything else I'll let you know ...

James- thanks mate. Iv booked it in with Cannon Lane Chrysler here who are gonna do some tests- fingers crossed!!

More info - there are flashes for the computer but they usaully don't do anything to affect the driveability. Make sure you used atf +4 in it when changing the fluid, and there's a solenoid pack that goes bad on the side of the trans (around $200 in the US), but the dealer should be able to find out if thats the cause by checking the computer ...

Hope you can sort it without major hassle!

Well The Chrysler dealer plugged her in and found 2 fault codes- Further inspection revealed a transmission fluid leak thru a stripped bolt. I was sceptical as I had already had a guy do a light gearbox service. Anyway they drained it , replaced the filter and gasket and helicoiled the offending hole and fingers crossed - the fault has stopped!
and not bad for ?139 inc vat parts and labour!

Sounds like you've got it sussed then ... not a bad price for main dealer work, too :)
