vibration hunt - found more!

After following Satellite 70s suggestion of checking the trans mount (which is on the way out) I checked the prop UJs.
i can move the 'box end UJ about a mil or more so i'm going to replace them.
My question is: are all the UJs the same as I need to order rebuild kits? The box is a 727, axle is 8 3/4 (Dodge Dart)

I was getting a vibration at around 70 and above. I noticed the engine/box and propshaft were not in a straight line. I loosened the tranny mount and levered it to the side to straighten things up and it's got rid of the vibration.

thanks, I've ebayed a new tranny mount and Rodleys are supplying UJ. Will also be checking alignment after installation.

Fixed UJ and trans mount. High speed vibration much reduced but now bad when using full throttle starts!
Decided to flip the prop 'round 180 degrees 'just in case'-despite re-installing it the way it came out. Floored it down the road and guess what, no vibration!!
I guess the moral of the story is a) have the prop balanced
b) dont trust the red neck who built the car to have checked the prop when fitting!
c) Bear in mind that some general vibration can be expected in a 30+ year old beater!
car feels much firmer at 90mph than a couple of weeks ago. Live and learn eh..

well done.

strange that turning it round made a difference (it shouldnt) but perhaps UJ slightly off centre or something.

You're not talking turning the prop end to end are you.

That's odd, it shouldn't make any differance! Whatever, glad you've lost the bad vibes man!

Hard to know, but the car wasnt standard when i got it. Kev, no mate, not end to end change. The spline bit wont fit the back axle y'see ;)
The vibration really has ben a curse and although not fully cured its a whole bunch better 8-)

They do tell you in the manual to mark which way around it is before removing. No idea why because you can't balance it attached!

Yes Dave, i marked it alright, But, as you say, if its out of balance, its out of balance!
