alloys wont fit on my front drum brakes!

Bought a set of Western wheels recently, tried them on the ragtop today, the rears (8.5x15) were my worry, would they go on? Yes! Just.
Fronts only 7s so no probs there surely, WRONG

The fins on the front drums wont allow the wheel mounting area to touch! Its about 8mm away or something!
Anyone else had this problem? Do you think its just an unlucky choice of wheels, or are front drums often a problem ?
Cheers.

They are designed for disc braked cars only maybe?

Will, this might be daft, but isnt there a difference between lug mounted and hub mounted wheels?
On my Dart i have lug mounted centrelines on a drum brake set up. The lug nuts centre the wheel as opposed to steel wheels which use the nuts to press and locate against the hub/ drum set up.

Wrong backspace on the wheels?

they locate on the sleeve nuts yes, but if i were to tighten them up, they would try to bend the centre of the wheel in and/or break the fins on the drums because the fins are the only thing the wheel is touching. Well dodgy. The fins stick out much further than the bit with the wheel studs on.
Its like the drums are just the wrong contour for the shape of the back of this type of alloy wheel .
Tried a Turbo Vec,

that fits ok (just) but its only 14 inch which means having to buy four new 14 inch tyres for a start, and I only just bought four new 15s !
Also, do you think 14s look a bit small on a car this size?
Got a set of 15in wolfies to pick up (cheers Dunc) wonder if those fit any better.

Cheaper solutions.... Either get a freindly engineer to turn the offending bit of fin off (cheapEST solution- file 'em down!) or space the wheel off the backplate a bit?

if it was a small interference i would definately, but its miles out! if i took that much off i think the drum would fall into two bits.
where can i get a a disc brake setup?
