440 ID

Can someone please help,i,ve just bought myself a 440 +727,(Thanks for your help Dave,Twolanes)
Stamp no on top of block as follows;
J440 1 maltese cross HP
3011119
8 22

side of block stamp

7.20.72

3698830.440.7

Ibeleive it to be a Hi po motor,whats the difference between these and standerd 440,s if any

That's 73-78 440. It's actually 1973. Exact day and month and sequence is in the next line. (Should have some dots there somewhere.) Maltese cross means a .001" undersize crank. HP is high performance. Are you sure that 1 after j440 ain't a T for truck as most of these went in motorhomes. HTH.

Came out of a Jenson Kev,still got the jenson rocker covers on it.its deafinatly a 1 behind the440,has it got any good bits in it?i beleive they can run on unleaded after 72,is this true

I was talking about the pad stamp not the block stamp.

Double checked the PAD STAMP :) Its is a 1 behind j440
perhaps the good old boy lost his T :)

I think a 1973 truck block would be stamped JT440 Kev. Having seen truck blocks I should know but can I remember? Of course not!
