When having a car resprayed if it has some light dings on some of the panels do they have to replace the panels or are they straightened out? I'm not talking dents just the parking type dings, sorry if the question is stupid but i'm not familiar with the process of resprays

On the cars I have had done in the past they have justtaken the little dings out. If memory serves me corectly, when I had the rover done that had quite a big ding in the bonnet and they got that out too.

What Pip said.
Some bodyshops have a more "thorough" approach than others. Some will get the dings out as metal ( ia am told) can be shrunk where the ding has stretched it. It all depends. If there are so many dings, it would be less time consuming to re-wing the car etc etc.

Alright cheers, how do they get the dings out as you say? Beat them out?

If you can get a hand in behind them you can tap them out and shrink the metal so it is smooth again.
If you are not looking they might just get it roughly right and fill it with filler.
My sister in Canada used to run a small business getting hailstone dints out (they have very big hailstones in Alberta) using air pumps and inflateable bags.

...or real large dings can be done with a slide hammer. Then apply the techniques referred to above.

Or just do what Americans do, fill the dings with bondo!

I think you'll find the 'bondo' types in most countries.
Best bet is to ask how they're going to do the work. I little filler aint a bad think, alot is...
